Bite-sized Bolivia adventure tours
Travelling through Peru and Bolivia will give you a great impression of the culture and traditions of South America, from the Pacific coast all the way into the heart of the Andes. The two countries are connected by the ancient Inca route that runs along Lake Titicaca. Bolivia is the most traditional country in South America. The government here isn’t too bothered about investing in tourism which means you’ll be travelling along very bumpy roads and come across relatively few tourists. It’s all very authentic and at least for now, unspoilt.
Make sure you plan plenty of time to explore Bolivia. The country is so varied - one moment you’ll be wandering across a witch market in a thriving city high in the Andes, the next you’ll be racing across salt pans in a jeep or listening to squawking parrots deep in the Amazonian rainforest.
If you'd rather leave the planning to us, take a look at our Peru and Bolivia itineraries. All prices as mentioned below are valid until 1 January 2011, excluding international flights. Other rates may apply in holiday periods.

La Paz- Copacabana - Puno v.v.
|
From Puno you could take the bus directly to La Paz in Bolivia (or vice versa) but you’ll miss something special on the way. Copacabana is a laid-back village on the south side of Lake Titicaca, just across the Bolivian border and halfway between Puno and La Paz at 3900m altitude. The town was used by the Incas as a resting point on the way from La Paz to Cuzco and over the centuries became a pilgrimage site. Bolivians still come here from far and wide to have their possessions blessed. During this Bolivia adventure tour, you’ll also take the boat over to the legendary birthplace of the first Inca king: Isla del Sol.

La Paz - Uyuni - Potosi - Sucre v.v.
|
During this Bolivia adventure tour, you'll travel deep into the heart of Bolivia. You’ll pass strangely coloured volcanic lagoons high in the Andes and visit a cactus island in the world’s largest salt lake. You’ll come face to face with the devil miner El Tio in the silver mines and explore the colourful Indian market in Tarabuco. To top it all off, you'll weather the freezing temperatures in the hot volcanic springs and visit the eerie witch market or the coca museum in La Paz. This is one of our more adventurous trips -you’ll be doing lots of travelling in extreme climates and you’ll need to make do without the home comforts. However, you will be rewarded with some of the most amazing scenery in South America.

La Paz - Uyuni - Potosi - Sucre v.v.
|
This Bolivia adventure tour covers four of Bolivia’s highlights in four days. You’ll visit the immense salt pans in the south but without the four-day jeep tour to the lagoons and hot springs of our Flamingos and volcanoes tour above. Your time spent travelling is far shorter, which makes the trip less tiring. From the witch markets and coca leaves of La Paz, you’ll cross the Altiplano to the dazzling salt lake at Uyuni. After visiting a cactus island in the middle of the lake and trekking up a volcano you’ll travel on to the highest city in the world and then, in stark contrast, to the subtropical town of Sucre.

Rurrenebaque - Madidi - Rurrenebaque

Chalalan ecolodge is an excellent base from which to explore the Amazonian rainforest from the Bolivian side. The lodge was established by the Bolivian government to provide an alternative source of income for the indigenous Indian population. The resort is run exclusively by locals and all proceeds go directly to the local community. Hidden away deep in the Amazonian jungle on the banks of Lake Chalalan, this ecolodge is built using only local resources and traditional techniques. Because of its remote location the area around the lodge is teeming with wildlife. During this Bolivia adventure tour, you'll take a guided trek through the rainforest and a canoe trip on the lake for a close-up glimpse of howler monkeys, tapirs, jaguars, parrots and of course caimans…

Rurrenebaque - Pampas - Rurrenebaque
|
Pampas are the vast treeless grassy plains typical to the countries of South America. They're outstretched, green and very wet which means they’re brimming with wildlife. During this Bolivia adventure tour, you’ll travel by 4x4 past remote villages to the Yacuma river before taking a small boat up river through dense jungle scenery. Activities can include alligator spotting by night, or piranha fishing in a wooden canoe. The high trees and walls of impenetrable green are a perfect hiding place for the animals here. As the pampas are riddled with waterways you can get very close to the monkeys, birds, iguanas, turtles and the low shrubbery in the pampas makes them easy to spot.
