Bolivia tours - Welcome to Bolivia!

Bite-sized Bolivia tours

Travelling through Peru and Bolivia will give you a great impression of the culture and traditions of South America, from the Pacific coast all the way into the heart of the Andes. The two countries are connected by the ancient Inca route that runs along Lake Titicaca. Bolivia is the most traditional country in South America. The government here isn’t too bothered about investing in tourism which means you’ll be travelling along very bumpy roads and come across relatively few tourists. It’s all very authentic and at least for now, unspoilt.

Make sure you plan plenty of time to explore Bolivia, and take a good look at our bite-sized Boliva tours. This country is very varied - one moment you’ll be wandering across a witch market in a thriving city high in the Andes, the next you’ll be racing across salt pans in a jeep or listening to squawking parrots deep in the Amazonian rainforest. If you'd rather leave the planning to us, take a look at our Peru and Bolivia holidays.

The prices below are valid until 31st December 2012, are based on two people travelling and exclude international flights. Prices for departures beyond this date and for international flights are available on request. For departures during peak seasons (e.g. summer holidays, Christmas and New Year) supplements may apply.

In search of the sun god

Duration: 2 days / 1 night
Price: £105 per person - based on 2 people sharing
Departure: Daily
Route: Puno - Copacabana - Isla del Sol - La Paz (or vice versa)
From Puno you can take the bus directly to La Paz in Bolivia (or vice versa) but you’ll miss something special on the way. Copacabana is a laid-back village on the south side of Lake Titicaca, just across the Bolivian border and halfway between Puno and La Paz at 3900m altitude. The town was used by the Incas as a resting point on the way from La Paz to Cuzco and over the centuries became a pilgrimage site. Bolivians still come here from far and wide to have their possessions blessed. During this Bolivia tour, you’ll also take the boat over to the legendary birthplace of the first Inca king: Isla del Sol.

Searching through the silver mines

Duration: 2 days/ 1 night
Price: £55 per person - based on 2 people sharing
Departure: Daily
Route: Potosi - Silver Mines

A short, but very impressive Bolivia tour to the highest city in the world, Potosi, combined with a trip into the the Cerro Rico (Rich Mountain) silver mines. The city's streets are filled with a colonial splendour that will take your breath away; although it might just be the altitude making you slightly out of breath (4090m). You'll join a guide as he takes you into the silver mine shafts and shows you just how hard life is for local miners. Miners are accustomed to seeing tourists in the mine and appreciate any food or water you're willing to share with them.

Springtime in the white city

Duration: 3 days/ 2 nights
Price: £55 per person - based on 2 people sharing
Departure: Daily
Route: Sucre
Travellers rarely know much about Bolivia's sunny, laid-back capital Sucre before travelling to Bolivia. You'll find that it's a great place for taking a break from an intense travel schedule and for looking back on all you've experienced during your trip. Despite the altitude, 2800m, this colonial college town has a very pleasant climate. On your Bolivia tour we'll make reservations for you to stay at a charming local posada. During your free day you can walk through the city's colonial centre, past city squares surrounded trees, to a scenic view point. Try to plan your trip so that you can be here during the Tarabuco Market on a Sunday. It is held two hours away from Sucre in the middle of the countryside. The people of Sucre dress up and wander across the market in beautiful traditional clothing.

In the footsteps of Che

Duration: 3 days/ 2 nights
Price: £155 per person - based on 2 people sharing
Departs: Daily
Route: Santa Cruz - Samaipata - Santa Cruz
Che Guevara took his last breath in the rolling hills surrounding the eastern city of Santa Cruz. It's just the right place to relax at the end of your Bolivia tours. The scenery is not what you would expect to see in Bolivia: green and subtropical with a mild climate. You'll spend two days at a eco-resort run on solar energy on a Bolivian estate complete that even has its' own herb garden. Watch the butterflies, hummingbirds and other tropical birds fly past your hammock, or spend your time more actively in nature and go on a hike in Amboro National Park and visit the ruins of El Fuerte.

Easygoing Santa Cruz

Duration: 2 days/ 1 night
Price: £42 per person - based on 2 people sharing
Departure: Daily
Route: Santa Cruz
Many trips to Bolivia begin in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the "eastern capital" of Bolivia. At an altitude of 500m we believe this is the best place to acclimatise to the Bolivian way of life before moving on to the high plains of Bolivia. Santa Cruz has a temperate climate; surprisingly there are even palm trees in the central plaza. The city has a very friendly atmosphere, the people are nice and there are a few beautiful colonial churches with gold and wood carvings within walking distance from your hotel.

Swimming with caimans

Duration: 4 days / 3 nights
Price: £369 per person - based on 2 people sharing
Departure: Daily
Route: Rurrenebaque - Madidi - Rurrenebaque
Chalalan ecolodge is an excellent base from which to explore the Amazonian rainforest from the Bolivian side. The lodge was established by the Bolivian government to provide an alternative source of income for the indigenous Indian population. The resort is run exclusively by locals and all proceeds go directly to the local community. Hidden away deep in the Amazonian jungle on the banks of Lake Chalalan, this ecolodge is built using only local resources and traditional techniques. Because of its remote location the area around the lodge is teeming with wildlife. During this Bolivia tour, you'll take a guided trek through the rainforest and a canoe trip on the lake for a close-up glimpse of howler monkeys, tapirs, jaguars, parrots and of course caimans…

Bolivia tours - Bolivian pampas tour

Pampas and piranhas

Duration: 5 days / 4 nights
Price: £195 per person - based on 2 people sharing
Departure: Daily
Route: Rurrenebaque - Pampas - Rurrenebaque
Pampas are the vast treeless grassy plains typical to the countries of South America. They're outstretched, green and very wet which means they’re brimming with wildlife. During this Bolivia tour, you’ll travel by 4x4 past remote villages to the Yacuma river before taking a small boat up river through dense jungle scenery. Activities can include alligator spotting by night, or piranha fishing in a wooden canoe. The high trees and walls of impenetrable green are a perfect hiding place for the animals here. As the pampas are riddled with waterways you can get very close to the monkeys, birds, iguanas, turtles and the low shrubbery in the pampas makes them easy to spot.
