Peru adventure tours: Lake Titicaca

Typically Titicaca

Duration: 3 days / 2 nights
Price: £70 per person - based on 2 people sharing
Departure: Daily
Route: Puno - Uros - Taquile - Puno
A trip to Peru wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Lake Titicaca. At 3820m above sea level, it’s the world’s highest navigable lake. The best way to see Titicaca is by boat, a welcome change after all those long bus rides! After a night in Puno you’ll head out onto the lake by boat, returning to Puno for another night before travelling on to your next destination.

The first stop on the boat trip is the Uros Islands or Islas Flotantes, entirely built of floating reed. You’ll then sail on to Taquile Island, inhabited by native Indians. Here you’ll go on a walk across the terraced fields and stop for lunch at a local restaurant (try the fish, freshly from the lake). In the afternoon you’ll head back to Puno and as the sun sets across Titicaca the captain will navigate you through the floating reed fields into Puno harbour.

You’ll need to have a flexible attitude and be prepared to go basic. You’ll have dinner with the family, sleep in a basic bed with shared ‘toilet’ and bathroom facilities with the rest of the family. In return, you’ll be treated to a memorable Titicaca experience. The sunset is breathtaking and in the evening the islanders often have a surprise in store for their guests…

Inca Trail holidays and treks to Machu Picchu

The ancient Inca city Machu Picchu and the breathtaking surrounding Sacred Valley will undoubtedly be the highlight of your Peru trip. You’ll be counting the days until you get to see the lost city looming up from the mist. Build up the excitement and take your time acclimatising in Cuzco for a couple of easy walks to get used to the altitude. Wander across the colourful markets and visit some of the nearby ruins for a taste of what’s in store.

Due to the overwhelming popularity and continuously changing regulations for the classic Inca Trail, we offer several alternative trails through the Andes in combination with a visit to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Just as spectacular, just as thrilling but a lot quieter and with a lot less hassle. There are several multi-day treks, short hikes and even a comfortable option by private car with driver. Whatever takes your fancy.

Combining Peru with Bolivia

Add even more variety to your Latin American adventure by combining Peru with Bolivia. The two countries are connected by Lake Titicaca. Bolivia is the most traditional country in South America and also one of the most interesting. Far from the well-trodden tourist track you’ll travel Bolivia by train, bus and jeep across the breathtaking landscape of the Andean highlands to immense salt pans and the Amazonian rainforest. Plan plenty of time for this undiscovered Latin American gem and experience a close encounter with the hard-working, rosy-cheeked, bowler-hatted Bolivians.
