Easy Going LimaLima starter packLima is the most obvious arrival point for your international flight from the UK. When you step off the plane, feeling slightly bedraggled at the end of a long flight, it’s nice to know you don’t need to worry about finding a hotel for the night. With our Lima trip we’ll take care of your airport transfer and first two nights accommodation in Lima for you.The hotels we’ve selected in Lima are colonial posadas, small, traditional South American hotels in the mid-range category with a garden, patio, breakfast room and some have a pool. We’ve selected these hotels based on atmosphere and location. The Miraflores district, just 30 minutes from the airport, is popular with travellers. This green, leafy district is located outside the city centre on the coast with several hotels, friendly bars and restaurants. There are a couple of busy shopping streets but the area is very small-scale which is perfect for the short stay of your Lima trip at the beginning of your Peru holiday. If you are looking for ideas of where to go next on your Peru trip, take a look at our Peru tours, or for a suggested itinerary check out our Peru holidays. |

A day in LimaFew travellers choose to stay in Lima for a long time and some even call it gloomy. That’s because, for several months a year, the city is shrouded in a sea mist that rolls in from the Pacific Ocean and sticks to the south coast. Despite the fog, you can still have a good time in Lima; you just need to know where to go. That’s why we suggest taking suggested Lima trip to help you get your bearings in the city and find out where all the good spots are. Click here for more information on our Lima tour. |

We don’t want to show you just the touristy highlights on your Lima trip, but also the areas that most visitors don’t get to see. That way you’ll get to see a very authentic side of the city and learn what it’s like to live here. The driver will take you to the harbour district Callao, the nightlife area Barranco and one of the old working class districts of the city. Your Lima trip also includes the major highlights of the city like the Museo Nacional de Antropolgia y Arquelogia and the new Museo de la Nacion with an interesting exhibition of the Peruvian people and cultures throughout the ages. Everything you see in the museum will come back at some point on your Peru trip and will give you a much better understanding of the many ruins and cultural relics you’ll see on the way. |

Finally, your Lima tour will take you across the Plaza de Armas, where you'll find the presidential palace and the city hall, to the Monasterio de San Francisco. The underground catacombs house the remains of 25,000 people, mainly monks, priests and nuns that lived in the monastery. Bizarrely, the bones have been sorted and neatly rearranged in a circular pattern, which actually makes it an even more morbid, if not chilling sight. You can take a guide into the catacombs and the monastery has now been converted into a museum with some impressive works including a Rubens. The driver will drop you off here. If you’re feeling peckish by now, there are plenty of little local restaurants around the museum where you can grab a “jamon morteno” sandwich and decide on how you’re going to spend the rest of the afternoon, or continue planning your Peru holiday. |

At the end of the day, take a taxi to Miraflores or Barranco where you'll find plenty of international restaurants and lively bars. We had some fantastic fresh fish at Pescados Capitales, Av. la Mar 1337 in Miraflores. For something typically Peruvian try the chifa; a mix of Peruvian and Chinese cuisine. Chifa also refers to the type of restaurant that serves chifa food. A well-known chifa in Lima is Wa Lok. If you fancy hitting the Lima nightlife, head to Juanito's (Grau 274) and La Noche (Bolognesi 307). On Fridays there's live music ("pena") at Don Porfirio. From our Lima trip, you can continue your trip further south with our Nazca tour or Lima to Arequipa module, or fly directly to Arequipa or Cuzco. |
