About ten years ago Carol, who owns and runs the lodge, wrote a book about spirituality in the Andes. By the time she’d finished the book, she’d become so infatuated with the mountains and the valley that she decided to stay, and set up a sustainable eco lodge hotel. Urubamba, a small village in the middle of the Sacred Valley was the ideal location and very authentic. The lodge staff, like most other people in the area are descendants of the Quecha, the indigenous inhabitants of the Sacred Valley. If you’re interested they can tell you all about their religion, the history of the valley and the healing properties of the medicinal plants in the garden. There’s a feeling of serenity throughout the Sacred Valley eco lodge and a distinct absence of noise from the streets. Start your day with a lavish American ‘health’ breakfast with freshly bakes wholemeal bread and fresh fruit juice. Your meals (dinner is included) are vegetarian and can be adapted to meet your dietary requirements. Meals include organic salads and freshly picked vegetables from the hotel garden. |

The Sacred Valley eco lodge has a vegetarian restaurant, two lounges with lots of cushions and a fireplace, a library and a yoga studio. The sixteen comfortable cottage-style rooms are comfortably decorated using only local natural materials and have a private modern bathroom. All rooms overlook the gardens. Water is heated by solar panels and there’s gas thermal heating. |

The gardens are unique, laid out as seven ‘Sacred Gardens’ each with their own design. Throughout the gardens are small lawns where you can lie in the sun, small peaceful meditation spots and borders filled with flowers, herbs and traditional Andean medicinal plants. There’s also a small waterfall, walk-around floral spiral and an Incan ceremonial water temple. All very Zen. While you’re at the Sacred Valley eco lodge, you should really plan a day of doing absolutely nothing and just soaking up the serene atmosphere. A stay of at least three nights here should give you enough time to unwind before continuing on to your next Peruvian adventure. |
