Things to do in Peru: Hiking and trekkingTrekking is one of the most popular Bolivia and Peru outdoor activities. Trekking centuries-old Inca paths, hiking through idyllic valleys and mountain passes at over 4700m, even treks through the Amazon rainforest, it’s all here. Sometimes you’ll get a little assistance from mules or llamas carrying your baggage. Peru Travel Plan offers multi-day treks in the following areas:Colca Canyon: Three day trek to a remote part of the canyon, all the way to the bottom of the canyon on Day One, all the way back up again on Day Two and a visit to the Cruz del Condor on Day Three. For more details, see our Colca trekking module. |

Sacred Valley Follow in the footsteps of the Inca on our four-day Inca Trail Trek, or our more easy-paced 2 day Inca trek version in Trails and Valleys. Things to do in Peru: RaftingLike Nepal, Peru is a mountainous country that has some excellent rafting opportunities. Whether its rapids and wild rivers for a wild adrenalin-rush or slow-flowing rivers where you can gently paddle your way downstream. Class II – III rapids are suitable for first time rafters. Our Sacred Valley tour includes a rafting/floating trip for beginners. For more experienced rafters we can offer a more challenging Class III-IV trip. Our 2 day Inca trek and Machu Picchu train tour also have an optional rafting excursion. You can raft down the Urubamba river all year round, though admittedly it’s a lot less exciting (e.g. less rapids) in the dry season from June to September. |

Things to do in Peru: Mountain-bikingMountain-biking through the Andes is an absolute thrill; you’ll cycle past ancient Inca ruins, gob-smacking vistas, salt pans and valleys. Pedalling downhill is a breeze, even for those less athletically inclined. We don’t recommend cycling on your own if you’re not very experienced as it’s easy to get lost on the many trails and tracks. IF you’ve booked an organised trip, you’ll be transferred by bus out of the (chaotic) city to the starting point of your cycling trip. You’ll travel in a small group with an English-speaking guide. The bus will follow behind with spare parts & a first-aid kit, and you can hop on if you’re feeling exhausted and catch up with the group further ahead. That way there’s no pressure and it’s all relaxed and fun.The excursions are easy to arrange locally in for example Cuzco, but you can also book them into our modules like the 2 day Inca trek and Sacred Valley tour. If you’re staying in La Paz in Bolivia, we can arrange a spectacular down-hill ride from La Paz all the way to Coroico. |
Things to do in Peru: HorseridingThe Sacred Valley around Cuzco is the best place to go horse-riding in Peru, for example in our 2 day Inca trek, Urubamba tour or Machu Picchu train tour modules. In Bolivia the valley around Samaipata has some fantastic horse-riding opportunities. For more details, see our Easy Going Santa Cruz module. |
